After a hectic weekend away, I wasn’t starting the week on top form. Luckily, the horrible cold that had appeared yesterday had just as quickly disappeared!🎉
Monday
Exhausted from the weekend. Work. That is all.😴
Tuesday
I was covering for Dan at a school this morning. The girls are nearing the end of their course and are very switched on, so it ended up being glorified babysitting really. I totally should have brought my mound of marking to give me something to do as I was there for 3 hours!😟 I also thought it would be the perfect time to catch up on this blog, but thought it would be bad form to whack my phone out and start typing, so resorted to pacing the classroom instead!😬
Mia had gone to my friend Deb’s house and when I got there she was sitting down to a cooked lunch with the whole family, after having devoured the entire contents of her lunch bag already! I swear people must think I never feed her!🙈
Then it was straight to the bakery, as we have nothing of substance in the house, where she still wanted something else to eat 😲 and a quick tidy up before tutoring!
I dropped Mia off at gymnastics and drove to work as they were having a little get-together for Sarah’s birthday. Had a glass of wine and some nibbles and then noticed the time and had to dash right back out of there as I was going to be late picking Mia up! True to form for when you’re running late, I hit every red light and ended up behind “Toowoomba’s slowest drivers”! Ran up the steps and lo and behold, she was standing worriedly waiting for me with my friend, Jane, and her kids. Jane said she wouldn’t have left her, but I felt suitably bad and apologised profusely!😳
Got halfway home and Mia said she had left her water bottle there. Ordinarily I would have said we’d get it next week, but she is leaving them/losing them at the rate of about one per week at the moment and I just can’t keep up, so “chucked a u-ey” and went back to fetch it!
All the faffing made us around half an hour later than usual, which meant there wasn’t much turnaround time between making dinner and me going to Pilates, so Ian had to begrudgingly step in. Well he generally cooks better than me anyway, so it’s a blessing in disguise!
Wednesday:
One of the students brought kittens into work today!😻So everything stopped for a little while for cooing purposes!
Mia was also singing in chapel today so I took the opportunity to duck out from work to go and watch her. Great minds: Eli’s Mum, Sam, had done exactly the same thing, so we sat together.
In my mad dash out of work, I had bloody left my phone on my desk so couldn’t film, but Sam filmed and sent it to me later. Unfortunately parents had to sit right at the back of the hall so it ended up as a great video of the backs of kids’ heads!🙊
Mia spotted me before they started singing and gave me a huge excited wave though, so it was worth it!💕
Thursday
Today was a crazy mental day of appointments!
I had to go and see Dan about working for the upcoming election: I wasn’t going to when he initially asked me if I was interested and then I found out how much you get paid!🤑So I’m going to cram in as many extra hours as humanly possible, despite the fact I’m already overstretched at present!😬
Then it was a meeting about more U.K. tax shiz (give me strength!)😫
Then I had to go and find more ballet shoes for Mia as she decided to wreck the ones she had a few weeks before her end of year concert!😑 Luckily I found her size in Kmart so they didn’t cost the earth!😅
Next was acupuncture. Despite being told she couldn’t watch YouTube as she is eating my data at the speed of knots, Mia waited until I had dozens of needles in me and was incapacitated to do exactly that!😤
For being a good girl (ish) all morning (well I had dragged her to boring appointments all over town!), I got her one of the Disney Princess kinder eggs and she was playing with the toys in the car when I thought I heard her say “SHIT!”😳
“What did you say, Mia?!?!”
“The prince said shit!” she replied calmly.
“Um…whyyyy did he say that?!” I tentatively asked, hoping that I was still mishearing her!
“Because he fell over and hurt himself!” …Okay, so context is correct. Damn it!
“Mia, do you know that shit is a very naughty word?!”
“But you say it, Mummy!”
“When do I say it?!” I asked indignantly.
“When you’re driving and getting angry at people.”
😳”…Well…it’s a very naughty word and I never want to hear you say it again, or you’ll be in big trouble! Do you understand?!”
“Yes, Mummy….will you be in big trouble if you say it?”
“Yes, Mia. You have my permission to tell me off if you hear me say it!”
“Great!” (Giggle.) “I hope you say it!”
(I hope I don’t!🤞)
Friday:
I was trying to reverse out of the bottle shop car park this afternoon and it was like Piccadilly Circus (which is crazily busy if you don’t know London!). Mia started singing “Fun zone! Fun is in the zone!”
“Are you being ironic, Mia?!” I asked.
“Yes, I am iconic!” she replied.🤣🤣🤣 She doesn’t know what either of those words mean, I am sure, but she has great comedic timing! Well, she makes me laugh and that’s what counts!🙊
I had told Ian that it was our work Christmas party that night, but it had gone in one ear and out of the other and he wanted to go for his regular Friday night drink with his workmates and also wanted a lift! I refused because I had to get ready so he had a big moan and we ended up having yet another argument!😒 I wasn’t budging though, as I had told him about this weeks ago!
Mia was there and was trying to take Ian’s side, which was really annoying: A) because she didn’t know what was happening, or the background to it and B) because I didn’t want to have yet another argument in front of her!
I got annoyed and went to start getting ready and Mia came in and said: “He does love you, Mummy. It’s just deep inside and you have to find it!” Relationship advice from a 5 year old! And why do I have to do the finding?! I’m bloody exhausted!
Ian came in in the middle of our deep and meaningful and stood there for a while. He was riding his bike there and would be back in time for me to go out, he said. Then he gave Mia a kiss goodbye and patted me on the head?!?! So I’m now a frigging pet!😒
To his credit, he was back in time as one of his mates dropped him off, but he didn’t have his bike, which he had left at his mate’s house.🤷🏼♀️
We were having our work Christmas party in November because it was also my friend/colleague Diana’s leaving do, as she was moving to Western Australia with her family. I was pretty sad about this as she was one of my first Mummy friends in Toowoomba and had actually helped get me a job in the first place. We had a great night, although there were a few tears towards the end!😢
Saturday:
My alarm went off at 6am for me to do parkrun, but I decided I felt too seedy, so just lay in bed until I had to get up a couple of hours later.
Mia had her dress rehearsal for her dance show and I was one of the “Mum helpers” so had to get down to the studio for that by 10am.
Got there, signed in and even got my own badge! I realised I hadn’t booked Mia’s dance photos which were being taken that morning, so had to quickly do it on my phone and apologise for being disorganised!😬
I was freaking out a little about the changeover from Ballet to jazz, as my role was to help switch Ballet buns to jazz ponytails as quickly as possible and I was anticipating some sort of hair malfunction! But, as it happened, I only had to help a couple of girls aside from Mia and it was pretty simple!😅
By mid-morning I was starting to flag though, so my friend offered to go and fetch hot chocolates to perk us up (well, she offered coffee, but I just can’t stand the stuff, which I know everyone else finds weird!🤷🏼♀️)
We eventually finished and went through McDonalds drive-thru for a hangover cure/lunch, then I tagged Ian in and I went for a nana nap, before being reminded by Mia that I had to hand in her entry for the colouring competition at Kmart today, so dragged myself out of bed and down there!🤦🏼♀️
An early night for once!😴
Sunday:
Had a well-needed PJ day for most of the day and actually had a “family cuddle” on the couch!😲
Drove to Ian’s mate’s house to pick up his bike from Friday night and inadvertently went through a red light!😳 I was turning right and when I saw a gap in the traffic, it was instinct to just go, but my filter light was red! Whoops! Really hoping that there is no camera there!🤞Obviously GH had to make sarcastic comments every time we approached traffic lights for the rest of the journey!🙄
I mistakenly made enough soup for an army for dinner, as I hadn’t read the recipe properly and realized afterwards that it said “serves 6-8”! 🙈 At least it tasted good though, so I will happily eat leftovers for several days!
Mia is so cheeky at the moment! We had to put her on the “naughty wall” (time out) and threatened to call Santa this afternoon!😣
I stayed up late marking assessments for the next day – because there is nothing like last minute preparation!😬To keep me awake, I tried a “Cake in a cup” (which I had got free from Chicks at the Flicks) for the first time. I’m easily impressed and thought it was a cool concept! I was expecting it to be absolutely disgusting, but it was actually okay! I don’t think I’d stretch to paying for one though!
Hoping for a blasphemy-free week next week! Thanks for reading!😊
